DSISD Board of Trustees
Welcome!
We the Board of Trustees welcome you to all public meetings
of the Dripping Springs I.S.D. Trustees encourage your
expression of views and interests on matters that affect you and
your family on a daily basis. Thank you for caring!
Role of the Board of Trustees
The seven board members of this school district are
unsalaried district patrons elected for a term of 3 years to represent all
of the people in the school district. The Board has final control over all
major decisions regarding school policy, curriculum, expenditures, and building
programs. It is the Board's responsibility to provide tax monies for
maintenance and operation of the schools, to submit bond issues to the District's
voters for construction of school facilities, and to hire the Chief Executive
Officer for the District. Board authority is defined by federal and state
law and by regulations set by the State Board of Education. Trustees
act officially only as a group in a duly called and posted Board meeting.
Their interest is to serve over 3800 students and 550 employees and to protect
the taxpayer's investment in the District. Click here to see our
Election Page
Role of the Superintendent
As the Board's chief executive officer and adviser,
the Superintendent implements Board policy, oversees the District's daily
operations, and keeps the Board informed of student achievements, programs,
expenditures, concerns, and opportunities. Staff recommendations may
precede Board action on agenda items.
Public Board Meetings
Trustees convene for regular sessions at 7:00pm on the
third Thursday of each month in the Central Administration Building
Boardroom located at 510 West Mercer Street. Regular meetings
may be rescheduled, or relocated and special meetings may be called.
Agendas are posted 72 hours prior to a regular or special meeting
and at least two hours before an emergency meeting. These agendas
are posted at the Central Administration Building, City Hall, Post
Office, as well as each campus location. They are also printed
in the local newspapers: Century News and the News Dispatch. The agenda
is also placed on the District's web-site. A majority of the Board
(4 members) constitutes a quorum. A quorum must be present to conduct
business or take action.
Public Forum
Texas Law does not require Boards of Education to hold
a public forum; however, DSISD Trustees chose to provide that opportunity
to its public. At a regular board meeting any persons wanting
to speak during a public forum will need to sign in with the Secretary
to the Board of Trustees. The Board shall allot no more than 45 minutes
to hear persons to speak. Persons will be heard on a first-come,
first-serve basis and shall not be permitted to relinquish time to
another person. Delegations of more than five persons shall appoint
one person to present their views before the board. The amount of
time allowable shall range between three and five minutes. No
presentations shall exceed five minutes. Refer to BED (local) policy
located with sign up sheet.
Complaints and concerns for which other resolution channels
are provided shall be directed through those channels. The presiding
officer or designee shall determine whether a person who wishes
to address the Board has attempted to solve a matter administratively.
If not, the person shall be directed to the appropriate policy BED
(local) to seek resolution before bringing the matter to the Board at
a subsequent meeting.
