Meet Your School Counselor : Anne Dodson
I was born in Wisconsin, but moved to Texas at the age of six weeks and
have been here ever since, so I am an 'almost native' Texan. I received my
undergraduate degree and teaching certificate in Fine Art from the
University of Texas, and a Masters of Education in Counseling and
Guidance from Southwest Texas State University. I have made fiber art,
taught elementary school art classes, been a Special education aide and
driven a school bus as well as raised paint horses before becoming a
counselor. I have two children , 19 and 22 years old who graduated from DSISD.
I read, adore movies and do crossword puzzles for relaxation.
I love living in the Texas Hill Country with my husband, and a plethora of animals.
Working with Pre Kindergarten through 5th grade students help me
stay young at heart. These are a wonderful ages to work with as a counselor -
they are thoughtful, energetic and creative young people. Some of the important
issues that they face in the years they are on this campus are: making and
keeping friends, getting organized, planning ahead, making good decisions,
dealing with frustration, handlng teasing, and coping with stress. I enjoy the
time I spend with them, in my office or in their classrooms , talking, playing
games, drawing or watching videos. Watch for me in the foyer of our school
during the school year - my puppet pals and I will be greeting
all our students as they begin their school day.
