Page Titles
Module 22

It is important that every page on a web site be given a title.  This is because the Page Title is used to identify the page when a viewer bookmarks it and this is the information that appears in the title bar of the browser.  If you do not give the page a title, it will be assigned a title of Unnamed or the title of the actual file name, which will not be useful to your target audience.

Assigning a title is easy.  When you create and first SAVE a page on some PC versions of Netscape, you have been giving it a name.  We have just accepted what the program suggested for now.  At this time, we will show how to change that name, or assign a name if it has not been given one.

1.  Open your first web page, page1.html

2.  Get into Editing mode (FILE>Edit Page)

3.  Pull down the FORMAT menu to Page Title.

4.  (If necessary, click the General tab)  In the Title line, enter a descriptive title for the page.  Avoid a lengthy description, but use something that will be helpful when someone bookmarks that page.

5.  Click OK and SAVE and Preview the page.  Notice that the title you assigned may appear in the title of the window.
