1st Six Weeks Schedule
 
Materials Needed:

Blue Foam Board (available at Print Plus)
Blue Folder with brads and pockets (available at Print Plus)

Channel One:

World Cultures students will be watching Channel One on a daily basis.  This 12 minute program is an excellent way to communicate information concerning the Olympics, the Elections and the War on Terror.

Course Outline:

August 17th and 18th ­  Opening of School Activities.  Introductions.
     Classroom Procedures and Discipline Policy

H.W.  “Meet an Olympian”  Students will watch the Olympic games and write a brief information sheet which includes:  Name, Country, Continent, Sport and one interesting fact.

August 19th and 20th - Collect Inserts, Hand out syllabus and calendar.
     Textbooks.

H.W.  Paragraph.  “If I could be anyone in WORLD History, I would be (    )  because.  Use paragraph form to answer why.

August 23rd and 24th -  Fantasy Island Overview.  Longitude and Latitude
     Activity

H.W:  Draw a map ­ “How to get to school from my house.” This includes: 1.  Street Names  2.  Compass Rose  3.  Landmarks  4.  Distances

August 25th and 26th  Fun with grids.  More work on Latitude and Longitude

H.W:  Begin Rough Draft of Fantasy Island including:  Shape of Island, Location, Lat and Long.

August 27th and 30th  Living Compass Rose and Reading a Map Scale

H.W.  Add Compass Rose and Map Scale to Rough Draft.
