Reading
A book is like a garden carried in a pocket.  Chinese Proverb
Our goal is to develop lifelong learners who love to read.  Reading is crucial to everything we do as active members of society.  It helps us earn a living, participate in politics, understand science, care for our families, and stay healthy.  Reading also fosters our personal growth.  Books are a window that enable us to see into the hearts and minds of other human beings.  As we read, we learn from their experiences and insights, and often we are entertained in the process.

Reading is a skill.  Like every skill, it requires practice.  We learn to swim by swimming.  We learn to play basketball by playing basketball.  Of course, instruction is key to success.  If someone doesn't teach you the rules of the game and some strategies you will not reach success.  On the other hand, once you have learned the rules, the level of success that you reach is directly dependent on whether you practice.  So it is with reading.  Reading takes practice.

Do I have homework every night?
Yes, students are expected to read every night.

What is A/R?

If you would like more information on the Accelerated Reading program, they have a great web-site.  It gives you an opportunity to take a sample test.  The site also has a list of books that shows the reading level and number of points each book may earn.  Keep in mind, though, that our library does not own every test or book on the list.
