About the GT Program

The Walnut Springs GT program serves students in grades 1-5. The screening process for Kindergarten will begin with a parent meeting in January. Testing will take place in February and services will begin March 1. They will be served by the GT specialist, Mrs. Burroughs, in a general intellectual program and are seen 2 times a week for 45 minutes.Screening for grades 1-5 begins with a parent meeting around Feb. 1 with testing occurring in March.  First grade students are also served by the GT specialist in a general intellectual program and are seen 2 times a week for 45 minutes. Second through fifth grade are served with compacted and enriched curriculums in the academic specific areas of  Math and Language Arts. Our 2nd and 3rd grade math students learn the foundational skills of problem solving and participate in Lego Robotics. In Language Arts they learn the instructional foundations of the Future Problem Solving Program. Students grades four and five use the skills to participate in such programs as Math Olympiad, Lego Robotics, and Future Problem Solving.
