Bend It Like Beckham (A Movie Review)

By Cherry and All-American Reject

We were really looking forward to seeing Bend it Like Beckham. Our expectations were met as we viewed the movie.

The movie plot is based around a struggling teenaged girl named Jess whose family revolves around their Indian heritage. While her sister is planning for her wedding (to an Indian man, of course) she joins a woman's soccer club against her parent's wishes. After they catch her playing without their permission, they forbid her to play soccer ever again. While they think she has a job, she sneaks around and continues playing with the club.

While her sister and parents are out for the weekend, they expected Jess to be staying at her cousin's house. But she feels she can't miss the soccer tournament in Germany, so she hops on the bus to play with her team.

When she deports the bus back to her home (England) her parents and sister are waiting for her there. She has to decide between her priorities: being a soccer player or respecting her family's heritage.

Cherry's opinion: In Bend it Like Beckham, it is really hard to understand what people are saying some of the time. Being a native-born American, I had trouble dealing with three accents: British, Irish, and Indian. It didn't take away from the plot too much, though. All in all, the movie was really funny and I enjoyed it. I have it 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

All-American Reject's opinion: Like Cherry said, it was understand what they were saying, but I feel that this movie is one of a kind. It has a good plot and I like it. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Our average rating for this film is 4 1/4 stars out of 5.

This film is rated PG-13
