"Fear - The Ally and the Enemy" A poem by B-Ball10. I wrote this piece on fear in accordance with the novel On Fortune's Wheel, by Cynthia Voigt, in which there was a very vauge motif throuout the book. I thought I didÝvery well on this poem even though it reads somewhat like a paragraph. Personal Info: I am a student at the Dripping Springs Middle School that is in 7th grade. I love to play basketball, fish, and hunt. I am also in a Gifted and Talented English class.

"Reading Gives You Wings" A poem by Kermit the Frog. When we write stories in my G.T. English class we always have strict guidelines as to what to write about. In poetry we can write however we want to. We were only told to write a poem about wings and I chose to write about what I did because reading is my favorite thing to do. I play for the team here in "Dripping". I have always loved writing and over the years I have gotten pretty good at it. Poetry is my favorite thing to write.

I liked this poem because of its changing emotions. Personal Info: I enjoy writing, drawing, and playing sports, especially tennis and basketball. I would like to say I am normal, but some people would beg to differ.

"A Perplexing Foretelling" I wrote the found poem as an assignment, but I enjoyed writing it. Personal Info: In my spare time I enjoy watching wildlife, especially birds and deer. I also enjoy looking at the stars with my dad through his telescope.

"If Only" A poem by Poofy McSpoofy. I wrote this poem because I was feeling crazy and decided to write down the first thoughts that came to my head. Personal Info: I am a 7th grader at DSMS and I love to write poetry and ride horses. I am looking forward to putting more of my compositions on The Spring.

"The Darkness, A Blanket" A poem by Lumberjack. I wrote this piece originally as an assignment in which we had to write two poems about fear. I chose to write about the darkness, because when someone thinks about fear, they also think about the dark. I wrote these poems as an assignment, but they expanded, and before I knew it, they became one of my personal favorite pieces of writing from this year. I used this as an opportunity to express my opinions about nature in general (I did a good job at that because I'm what most people would refer to as a "tree hugger"). I love to travel, and used my experience in this poetry. For example, I have actually been to Denali National Park in Alaska, which is the setting for Alyeska.

"New Visitors in Whitby" A poem by Lola K. I wrote this poem as an assignment in English, but I entered it because I think it is my best work. Personal Info: I am a 7th, soon to be 8th grade DSMS cheerleader. I skateboard, I love to chat on the Internet and talk on the phone, and my life revolves around music.

"Love Letter" A poem by Sparkling Water. I realized soon after writing this poem, I was not a true poet yet. It is extremely easy to write about love, because you feel it almost all of the time. Whether you are the one giving love, or experiencing. This poem describes how I felt, and I believe in a way, it may seem very depressing.

I can write poems as well as I can because of the help I get from my English teacher, whom I won't name for fear that someone might find out who I am.

But really I always have something to do with being 1 out of 3 with a dog, pool, TV, and trampoline. So I'm never really bored.

I took my favorite words and phrases from Anne of Green Gables and compiled them into this poem, which shows how Anne changed throughout the novel. Personal Info: I am a seventh grader at DSMS and like to read funny and interesting novels such as Anne of Green Gables.

"Teardrops of Blame" A poem by Snoopy. Personal Info: I'm an 8th grader DUH!!! I can be quiet or loud and I can be weird too. I enjoy swimming, hanging out with my friends, making mix tapes and rocking out to music but mostly I love to dance. I don't like preps or rude people.

"Big Mountains" A poem by Confused Guy. I wrote this piece while I was in Colorado. I was sitting on the balcony when it just popped up into my mind and I grabbed my journal and started writing. Personal Info: I'm 12 years old. I like spending time with my family and friends. I love playing fetch with my dogs. I like to draw and write poems if I have a good idea. I like to play sports and video/computer games and I like to watch movies with my family and friends. I also like to draw and take pictures of nature and living things around us.

There is no sensation greater than sleeping, in my eyes (or the closed state thereof).

"Lost" A poem by Aspen. In the past two years I lost four family members. Last year I became depressed. I needed to write a poem for English and I had no idea what to write so I pulled up my past experiences. Personal Info: I love writing poems and reading them, this is one of my main hobbies. I also love to read everything I can get my hands on. I also like to dance and act.

"Enslavement" A poem by Cabman. I wrote this after being inspired by a muse--which has seldom occurred in my life. Sometimes writing almost writes itself. This is an example. "Us" A poem by Cabman. I wrote this poem in very little time. I decided to write down words and phrases that flashed into my head as I thought about a certain person. Then I transformed those words into a short, rhyming poem. Personal Info: I am an English teacher at DSMS--and I love it! I have the best kids in the world. I enjoy good writing and good reading, as well as playing sports, watching movies, spending time with family and friends, and laughter. I write when inspired. I do it to discover what I'm thinking and transform my jumbled thoughts into some sense of clarity.

"Ode to Mr. Robinson" A poem by Gigi. I wrote this poem to see what it would be like to try to post something to the Literary Magazine and to thank the creator, Mr. Robinson. "Harmony" A song by Gigi. I wrote this song as a birthday present for my stepdad several years ago and surprised him with it at a family reunion around a campfire. The details are true, so this song was very easy to write. In fact, it "came to me" almost completed, and all I had to do was a little tweeking. I enjoy singing and writing about real life because nothing seems too big if I can make it rhyme. Personal Info: I teach English at Dripping Springs Middle School because I find middle school students interesting, fun-loving, and unpredictable. I write poetry, songs, short stories, and letters to friends because I like to be able to carefully plan and rewrite important messages before I send them. The spoken word is hard to control and easy to forget, but writing is easier to manage in a thoughtful way.
