Classroom News 9/22 - 9/26
Parents: There will be two forms coming home in the Tuesday folder for you to take a look at. One is pink, the classroom directory information form, and the other is to sign up for parent conferences on October 13th. If you already signed up, you shouldn't get this one. If the times listed don't work for you, there's always my conference time or after school.
Reading: Friday the 19th the students read the Time For Kids and were given ten words to focus on for a context clue activity. They need to figure out the meaning of the ten words based on the news stories in their magazine and not from a dictionary. It is due Tuesday. Small groups start this week. Groups will be using different books, but all will have vocabulary terms to use in sentences (due Thursday). We will continue reading The Thing About Georgie to see what new things happen in his life.
Language: We will start working with the steps of the writing process this week.
Spelling: New words will be given Monday and tested Friday. They will work with their words each day at school for a short time, but many will need to continue to practice at home.
Math: This week will include adding and subtracting with 5 digit numbers, problem solving, and reviewing for the test on Friday.
Science: There will be a test on the states of matter Friday. Most of the week will be reviewing for the test.
Social Studies: We will start to learn about the original tribes that first lived in this region.
